NIIT continued with its aggressive drive to roll out Cloud Campus across India,
by recording 11,000 enrolments for this initiative, since its launch in Q1. One
of the most important initiatives of NIIT in recent times, the new-age GNIIT- “India’s
first Cloud Campus”, is based on cutting-edge cloud computing technology. Students
enjoy higher mobility as they can access educational services using a Netbook or
a Mobile device that connects them to NIIT’s Cloud CampusTM network through data
cards. This introduces a revolutionary educational paradigm called collaborative
learning which fundamentally changes the traditional classroom based, student-teacher
relationship.
With a thrust on vocational skills training, NIIT entered into one of the largest
public-private partnerships with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to
enhance skills and employability of youth across India. Through this partnership
it is estimated that around 7 million youth will be trained by 2022, in multi-skilling
mode. NIIT will setup over 1500 state-of-the-art NIIT
Yuva Jyoti Centres , across 1000 cities in India.
Individual Learning Solutions recorded
net revenue of Rs.180.2 Cr, up 12% YoY. This was supported by 11% increase in short
term modular enrolments, with India (IT) Placements growing at 15% YoY on the back
of continued acceptance of NIIT graduates.
During the quarter, NIIT reaffirmed its leadership position in
the IT training space by being ranked as the Dataquest Top IT Training Company 2011,
for the 19th consecutive year.
Institute of Finance, Banking and Insurance (IFBI) launched –
“BankVantage”- comprehensive career programs in banking, designed and endorsed by
the industry. These programs-- Post Graduate Diploma in Banking, Diploma in Banking
and Certificate in Banking, will develop first day-first hour ready professionals
for the Banking sector.
School Learning Solutions (SLS) recorded net revenue of Rs. 40.5
Cr, up 12% YoY and added 133 schools during the quarter. NIIT crossed a significant
milestone this quarter with SLS surpassing the 10 million students mark.
NIIT NGuru- solutions for schools got empanelled by CBSE’s Continuous
and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) training program for teachers.
Corporate Learning Solutions (CLS) recorded net revenue of 163
Cr, up 10% YoY. Order intake for CLS was at USD 27.9 mn for the quarter. The closing
order book stood at USD 77.8 mn, with 62% executable in the next 12 months.
During the quarter the Company strengthened the execution of 6 newly acquired Managed
Training Services (MTS) deals, signed in the previous year, worth USD 110 Mn in
potential revenue over the next 5 years. MTS itself registered a volume growth of
62% YoY.
In a recent development, NIIT divested its stake in its step-down subsidiary, Element
K Corporation and entered into strategic long-term services and licensing agreements
with SkillSoft Corporation to expand its MTS business as a key platform for growth.
NIIT has already added six clients in the MTS business over the last one year. The
cash flow from the sale will allow NIIT to focus on businesses that offer high growth
potential, namely - Cloud Campus, Vocational Skills Training (NIIT Yuva Jyoti),
School Learning Solutions (NIIT NGuru) & MTS.

This partnership will give us an opportunity to reach out to a vast audience whose
need for skill development has largely remained unaddressed.

Dilip Chenoy
MD & CEO,
NSDC
|
|
We are delighted to partner with NIIT, the leading player in the talent development
space, to offer employable skills to around 70 lakh youth across India.
|
|
|
• One of the largest Public Private Partnerships aimed at skill
development initiatives
• Project Outlay of Rs. 377 Crores over
the first four years for ‘NIIT Yuva Jyoti Centres’ across 1000 cities
NIIT and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) have entered into a significant
public-private partnership to enhance skills and employability for youth across
India. Through this partnership it is estimated that around 70 lakh youth will be
trained by 2022, in multi-skilling mode. The emphasis will be to offer job oriented
training in semi-urban and rural areas, to applicants mainly from low and middle
income households, aspiring to build successful careers through quality training
taken alongwith formal education. These skilled youth will initially fulfill the
requirements of nine emerging verticals predominantly in the service sector.
Under the Agreement, signed by Mr. Vijay Thadani, CEO, NIIT Limited and Mr. Dilip
Chenoy, MD & CEO, NSDC, at New Delhi, NSDC will participate in NIIT Yuva Jyoti Limited
(NYJL), a subsidiary company of NIIT, via a mix of loans and equity. The total project
outlay required for this ambitious project is Rs. 377 Crores over the first four
years, making this one of the largest commitments of its kind to be undertaken till
date.
As per a study conducted by IMaCS (the management consulting arm of rating agency
ICRA) on behalf of NSDC, India is likely to have an incremental requirement of 24.4
crore skilled people by 2022 in 21 high growth sectors. However, although India
is witnessing very good economic growth, the challenge of addressing the ever-increasing
‘available’ but ‘unemployable’ urban and rural workforce continues to be daunting.
NSDC is a not-for-profit company set up by the Ministry of Finance as the first
PPP initiative with the mandate to skill up 15 crore people by 2022 in 21 focus
sectors. This is part of the overall target of Government of India to train 50 crore
people by 2022 to meet the global skills shortage. NYJL aims to setup over 1500
state-of-the-art NIIT NIIT Yuva Jyoti Centres, across 1000 cities.
The aim is to provide industry and job specific training to around 70 lakh young
Indians by 2022, thus helping create a pool of job-ready work-force for the service
industry. Further, a ‘Skills Inventory’ of around 2.6 crore youth will be created
by 2022 through this initiative.
In the initial phase, the training will be imparted across 9 service sectors – Retail,
IT/ITeS, BFSI, Education & Training Services, Media & Entertainment, Healthcare,
Telecom, Hospitality and the Informal sector.
NYJL will assess the existing skill sets and aspirations of the participants and
accordingly help them choose the right program. Besides partnering in the joint
venture, NSDC will also play a significant advisory role and provide support in
facilitating tie-ups with Sector Skill Councils, Microfinance Institutions & banks,
in creating market awareness and in obtaining industry endorsements for the programs
offered.

Brings computer-aided education to the doorsteps of over 16,600 schools in the country
NIIT achieved a significant milestone in its mission to take computer proficiency
to the grass root levels, by imparting computer-based learning to 10 million students
across India.
Through its `NIIT@School’ program that offers computer education in Government and
private schools, NIIT has been shaping the future of Indian students for over a
decade now. NIIT’s computer education movement, introduced for the first time in
371 Government schools in Tamil Nadu in 1999 through the Public Private Partnership
model- now covers nearly 16,600 educational institutions across 18 States in the
country.
At an event held at the not-for-profit NIIT University campus in Neemrana to mark
the 10 million milestone, Mr. Kapil Sibal, Hon’ble Union Minister for HRD and Communications
& IT, delivered the keynote address and felicitated outstanding students and teachers
from across the country. Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman, NIIT, leading academicians,
principals of various schools, bureaucrats and members of NIIT and NIIT University
were also present on the occasion.
Sharing words of encouragement with students & teachers from Assam, Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi NCR and other parts of India, Mr. Sibal said that
the objective now is to take the 10 million number to many more millions—and touch
the entire community of India’s school going children.
Touching the 10 million student count, involved creating 23,936 hours of content,
setting up 1,07,209 computer based learning nodes, selecting, training, certifying
3,96,449 computer teachers, across Government and Private schools. NIIT has indirectly
made a positive contribution to the general development of the villages where children
are being taught computers. These villages in remote locations now enjoy power supply,
telephone and Internet connectivity.
NIIT has been at the forefront of the global movement to bridge the digital divide,
by bringing computer education to the doorsteps of children from all segments of
society. The journey to empower 10 million students saw many significant milestones
including initiatives like HIWEL (Hole-in-the-Wall) project that aims to take computers
to underprivileged children.
World Chess Champion and NIIT MindChampion Viswanthan Anand to promote Chess in
schools, set a new Guinness World Record in 2010 when 20,480 participants played
Chess simultaneously, guided by Viswanathan Anand. NIIT’s Schools program has received
numerous recognitions during its journey, including the UNESCO award for innovation
in education which led to the launch of Mobile Science Lab.
